FOR SESSION PRESENTERS

  • Selected presenters will receive:

    • One all-access pass per presenter for 2020, October 16 - 18

    • A personalized feature on our website and social media accounts

    • Volunteer support from Detroit Podcast Conference team for fielding questions & comments during your session.

  • Each session can have one or multiple presenters. This could be a hands-on workshop, panel, lecture-style talk or presentation.

 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

 

AUDIENCE

All pitches should be geared towards an audience of audio-based, creative professionals and/or beginners. This can be any of the following:

  • Storytellers

  • Live performers (comedians, storytellers, poets)

  • Podcasters

  • Voice artists

  • Musicians 

  • Sound designers and engineers

  • Companies and orgs interested in branded podcasting

 

DURATION

All sessions should be 50 to 90 minutes in length. Sessions over 60 minutes must include at least one 10-minute break. This could be time for applying a skill or suggestion you present, or time to simply look away from the screen. Be creative with how you invite attendees to use this time, but avoid losing their attention. 

 

CONTENT

We’re looking for sessions (workshops, panels and presentations) that develop

  • Story making skills

    • Writing, interviewing, story editing, finding inspiration, turning personal stories into audio stories, etc.

  • Presenting/performing skills

    • Voice acting, writing for the ear, live performance skills, performing with others, comedy writing for audio, etc. 

  • Audio and podcast production skills

    • Microphone handling/how to record people, sound design, script writing, structuring your show, audio editing 101, audio mixing 101, using music in stories, creating and recording sound effects, etc. 

  • High Level Management & Development

    • Writing contracts and project proposals

    • Pitching a project to an organization or your colleagues 

    • Marketing strategy

    • Managing your production (project management)

The following topics will also be considered

  • COVID-19: Adapting to a new normal

  • Elections 2020

  • #BlackLivesMatter 

  • Branded podcasting

  • Integrating comedy and humor 

 

Remember: Detroit Podcast Conference is virtual. Be creative when it comes to planning for a virtual audience. Consider: 

  • How can you keep viewers engaged for the duration of your session? 

  • How can you re-imagine your content for a virtual setting?

Preference will be given to submissions from Metro Detroit-based, -born and -bred creators.
